New Years Day 2008
Up at 5.30 this morning. The plane wasn’t due to leave ‘til 8.30 but you gotta be there 2 hours early. We successfully met up with the rest of our team at the airport and had a great flight to Singapore. It’s amazing how quick the time “flies” when you’ve got your own personal TV and Nintendo. It was a 2 movie flight… oooo! We did an hour long tour of Singapore and checked out the shops before heading off to Chennai. 3 ½ hours later and we enter truly another world! I wasn’t the proverbial last person through customs, but out of a plane load of 400 passengers, I was the actual last person. We were all dog tired since by the time we eventually got to bed it was 4am WA time. Long day! It was great to be met by Maggie, Al & Eliazar who greeted us in the traditional way of hanging beautiful garlands of flowers around our necks. The bus trip from the airport to the Blue Diamond was unbelievable. It was a real eye opener for the girls, who were suddenly wide awake, though Elijah slept through the whole thing, which is ironic since the Star Wars pod-racing scene is one of his favourites, and believe me, this was a strong rival for it. No lanes, no speed limit, no rules. Just the drivers, their car horns and the glory of getting to their destination without hitting anyone else or being hit … much. Pete.

WOW! So good to 'hear' from you three! I didn't expect for you all to be posting so soon - rather a week or so. Off to a great start and it already seems the adventure has begun!
Funnily enough Gareth thought I had slept through all our road journeys in India too.... I had my eyes shut 'cause I was PRAYING!
