Another relaxing day. Spent the morning catching up on school work; Maths, Ancient Egypt and reading. We couldn’t take any more temples. Early night since our flight to Dubai leaves at 4am and we have to be at the airport at least 2 hours early and the airport is ½ an hour from our hotel. Pete

Relaxing day today. Met a guy on the plane last night who has a furniture exporting business out of Delhi. He said he had any kind of furniture we could possibly want at good prices. Thought we might as well check it out. Not so much as a splinter of furniture in his entire shop, just more wall hangings, bedspreads, shawls, etc. Spent the arvo browsing around the shops near our hotel in the “inner circle” of Delhi and sent a parcel home. Up at 5.30am. Actually, Kaz and I were so aware of having to wake up early that we kept waking up through the night each time thinking it was about 5.30, first was only 10pm, then 1am, 3am etc. Anyhoo, we saw MOUNT EVEREST! Ye har. Pete.Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. It is 8848 metres high. The man who climbed the mountain was from New Zealand, his name was Sir Edmond Hillary with his Sherpa Tenzeng Norgay. A Sherpa is a local Nepalese man that helped carry the man’s luggage. On the other side of the Himalayas is China. The plane was wonky at first but the rest of the way was great and the weather was perfect. Elijah

Flew back to Kathmandu took us 5 hours to drive to Pokhara, 20mins to fly back. Our guide Mahandra took us to Patan which is another very old part of Kathmandu. (Wondered around the local square and saw some Asian guys shooting a film clip!! Cool – Maddi) Back to the hotel for an early night. Big day tomorrow. Pete
Tuesday 5th February 2008: Maddi's Birthday!
???DID YOU KNOW???12 percent of all the worlds species of birds can be found in Nepal. Started the day at 6:30am at 00 on the roof top of our hotel watching the sunrise over the Himalayas then went down for Vegemite on toast. The perfect morning!By the way after I finished my blog uploads last night I met a guy called Amit who was very interested in Christianity, he gave his heart to the Lord. Great end to a great day. Pete and Kaz We woke up this morning and all sang Maddi happy birthday, and gave her a couple of prezzies. After we met our guide, Samir, he showed us around the town. First we went to a dam where it was a strictly prohibited but we got to go and have a look because he owns a bit of the land. There is a massive net to save the people who swim further up at the end, because the water flows strongly from the glacier and it has pulled people before and they have died from hitting the big concrete gate. After we went to see a waterfall and dad bought a gushi tribal knife (she means Gorkha army knife – Pete) from a nearby market. Handing over to Maddi for an update on the rest of the day... MahaliaAfter dad got the Gorkha tribal knife we went to see another temple inside a cave. down, down, down the steps into a dark cave. Cool. We saw a temple in the middle with a light shining over the top and there was a sculpture of a snake with six heads. OOKAAY!!! we have seen about 52 temples in the last 3 weeks, it’s unbelievable how many gods they worship. Our guide wanted to show us where he studied when he was younger, so he took us to the little museum on the campus. In the museum were stuffed animals, butterflies from all over the world, models of traditional houses, a cabinet of dolls from all over the world with a 2inch high Jolly swagman (he he) and paintings on the wall of native animals from Nepal including; single-horned rhino, Bears, Leopards, Tigers, Elephants, Yaks, mongooses,
We spent the afternoon wandering down lakeside drive browsing through local handicraft shops. Very relaxing just what we needed. Then for a nice birthday dinner we went to a restaurant on the lake that we spotted out yesterday. Lovely. P.S – For my birthday I got a lovely silver thumb ring and a silver bangle from Mum and Dad, a card from the Munkas (I got my card from La La & Pi Pi before I left) and a statue of a boy from a guy called Suraj, who works at the restaurant here at the hotel. Thanks everyone! Maddi

Great that you made it to Pokhara! Usha and I had our honeymoon there 10 years ago. And Pathan is the side of Kathmandu we always stay in. A lot of the Christian missions have their headquarters over that side. Blessings!
Sounds great guys - love hearing all about your adventures as they unfold. Glad you had a great birthday Maddi - we were all thinking of you here. LOL - Donna and the Hoskings
