The kids are completely consumed by their books at the moment which is fantastic. Maddi has written up a chart to monitor their completed books. Elijah has finished “Charlie and the chocolate factory” and is currently devouring “James and the giant peach”. He is so excited with the story line and the comical characters. Pete’s been drilling him with his times tables and now he knows them all. Maddi is doing really well with her maths and has also got her head in a great book. Mahalia is working through her maths book too and is our most prolific reader. She currently has her head in novel numero 4! After a lazy morning we headed off to the old city for lunch on the roof top of Papa Andrea’s cafe over looking the old city and then went to meet Vic & Nancy, Dave & Angie for church at “King of Kings”. It was a great service. We worshipped in Hebrew! (Awesome band). After the service Elijah asked if he could go to the “prayer tower” which is on the 14th floor of the building for prayer. How could we refuse? Great prayer time for the little guy. Coffee and desert finished the night off nicely. Kaz

Well I’m writing the blog again because everyone else isn’t really in the blog spirit at the moment! Considering we didn’t get to meet up with Vic and Nancy, Dave and Angie at the wailing wall yesterday, we decided to meet up with them today at the Garden Tomb. Spent a bit of time there and listened in on a preacher preaching to a group. Went for a nice walk to a cafe’ and had lunch. (We are now best friends with the cafe’ owner... Free chocolate!!!) Walked around looking and saying, ‘no thanks’ to the shop keepers every time they would try to force you to buy something from their shop. It was down the small alley way again where we went last week with the tour. The number of shops in the narrow alley ways selling everything from raw chickens and skinned sheep to brass lanterns and olive wood carvings of nativity scenes is totally overwhelming. In New Zealand last year we met a family that were Jewish. We kept in contact with them and when we decided that we were coming to Israel Dad emailed them and asked them if they recommended anything. Anyway turns out they have family in Jerusalem, so we got in contact with them and we’ve been invited to go to their house for dinner tonight. Their names are Uri and Ossi and they have 3 daughters. We’re just about to go there so I’m signing out for now! Maddi P.S. Dinner was beautiful & very relaxing. Lovely family. They opened their house to us as complete strangers and Uri even gave us a personal tour of Jerusalem by night on the way back to our Hotel. Pete & Kaz

Hey fellow blog readers...Today was a chill-out day. Maths........................................... and then organised to meet up with Nancy, Vic, Angie and Dave at the old city for lunch. Coincidently they were staying in Jerusalem for longer after the tour as well. But the old city was closed for today because there was a shooting in Jerusalem last night. So instead we looked at Dad’s map and saw a biblical zoo. We kids were keen. So off we went. It was a cool atmosphere. At the entrance there was a jazz band playing near a pond with a monkey island in the middle of it. They also had a 3.D movie playing (which we didn’t have time to see), a boardwalk bridge over to the giraffes, plus lions, tigers, leopards, zebras, rhino, chimps, they even had an Australian Yard with kangaroos! ... get the idea! It was a great way to end the day. Hotel and bed. Xxx Maddi

Hi guys! It's so exciting reading all about your adventures through Jerusalem - it must be amazing to be right there and breathing it all in. I am living vicariously through you all - so thanks for such wonderfully detailed posts in your blog - fabulous! PS - Glad Elijah has found some great books - keep it up 'Lij!
Dear Pete and Kaz,
We arrived home safely and after 15 wonderful days with you and the intellitent and very well behaved kids, we quickly searched to find your blog. Now that we have found it, and happened to see ourselves in some of the pictures, we will be following along and thinking fondly of you. And of course you will be in our prayers always.
Penn & Dian
p.s. Elijah: today's word is "arabesque." Which, Pete, also happens to be a pretty good movie.
