Wednesday 2nd July 2008

EARLY this morning (1.30am) customs went through all of our souvenirs which went well, the only thing they took off us was a little boab tree made out of banana peels and a lion’s claw! It was pretty easy going through the lines and for the first time we weren’t the last people out of the airport! Uncle Brad and Aunty Sonja left their car at the airport for us so we picked it up and drove to their house. We settled in quickly and had a few hours sleep before we had to wake up again to see the family. It was so good to see everyone, Mahalia, Elijah and I all played with our cousins and Aunty Donna came down to Perth with Millie and Toby as a surprise! It was a great day. We finished it with dinner at a local restaurant with everyone including Aunty Nel, Uncle Will and the family! xxx Maddi

Monday 30th June 2008
This morning we went out to the reef in a glass-bottomed boat and snorkelled around for and hour. The water here is as clean as air and heaps of little fishies were the order of the day. The rest of the day was much like yesterday for the kids (games involving peddle boats, sand castles, etc) but Kaz was off to the hotel’s spa for a “lymphatic massage”, a full body sugar scrub and a much needed pedicure where they scraped 3kgs off the souls her “safari feet”. Meanwhile I did the now familiar search for an internet cafe and ended up catching taxis and buses up to Grand Bay-mission accomplished. Pete

Sunday 29th June 2008
Spent today lazing around on the hotel’s private beach just reading and watching the kids muck around in the peddle boats in the perfectly clear aqua water. Kaz and I even ventured out for a relaxing cruise in a twin kayak but when the kids ambushed us by throwing a coconut into the water and thereby splashing us a bit, we had to retaliate in kind and declared war. Kids-1, Parents-140! (Lesson for the day; don’t mess with the parents. Schoolwork for today-tick!) We also spent some time lazing around one of the hotel’s luxurious pools and finished with another one of those yummy buffets. Pete

This morning we had breakfast with Patsy and Brian and also Des’ mum, Krishny who lives down the road. We then drove to the airport after checking the car over and over again to make sure we didn’t leave anything in there, and flew to Mauritius! We boarded at 1:30 but because of the time difference we arrived in Mauritius at about 7:00pm where we were driven to our hotel (The Casuarina) and finished the day with a big buffet. The hotel is right on the beach, it has a beautiful view! See ya!! Maddi

Friday 27th June 2008
Today our goal was to get from the Kruger National park to Johannesburg, we left at about 10:00am-ish thinking we’d arrive in the afternoon, but it took a little longer then what we thought, but having said that it was still a no-rush kinda day. We hopped out of the car after driving for an hour to stretch our legs and looked at the Blyde river canyon, the 3rd largest canyon in the world. Now we’ve seen the 2nd and 3rd largest!! One of the viewing platforms was called ‘Gods window’ because it was a beautiful view, another was “the Pinnacle” and the 3rd was the “Wonder View” lookout. We also saw a big Gorge swing set up over the Graskop Gorge just like the one we did in Zimbabwe, we got to see a couple do it together, and it brought back awesome memories. We then hit the road again and turned up at a little town called ‘Pilgrims rest’ and had lunch there. When we arrived in Johannesburg we followed the directions to Patsy & Brian’s (Gareth’s mum & dad) house where we are staying tonight (We met Patsy in Sedgefield 2 weeks ago). We also had a surprise visit from Des’ mum, Krishny which was really nice. So here I am sitting in their living room after Lasagne and ice-cream and ready to fly out tomorrow to Mauritius!!!!!!!
